Placement notice – from Principal

Dear Equinox & Roden Families,

As a result of the current labour situation, you may already know that a Summary of Marks (that we are currently preparing) is being mailed to each family over the summer. Also as a result of the labour situation, we were not able to send out student placement letters that indicate which class each student will be in come September 8th. However, since we know placement information is very important to our families, we have created class lists that will be posted in the first floor hallways on the P.A. Day, Friday June 26th from 9am until 1pm.

If you are not able to attend or have a friend, neighbour, family member, etc. attend, they will be available again the week of August 31st. Unfortunately due to logistics and confidentiality, we were and are not able to provide this information earlier, email or post on outside windows. We will also not be able to share this information over the phone.

As always, since student placement decisions involve extensive consultations on a wide variety of considerations (as shared in our spring newsletter), most of which involve confidential information about individual students, we cannot and will not share specific reasons for student placements.

We will be available for general questions about placements after August 31st.

Both school offices will close for the summer after June 26th and reopen on August 31st.

We thank you for an exciting school year.

Mark Lasso
(Principal)

Fun Fair 2015 Wrap-up

thankyou

You did it Roden! With close to a 100 volunteers, from Roden Teachers, staff, students and parents we wrapped up a very successful Fun Fair, even with an uncooperative weather system. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who tirelessly helped organize and run this year’s fun fair.

It’s because of your efforts, your volunteer hours, your donations, that we were able to raise more than $5000 for STEM (science/tech/engineering/math) programs in the coming year. It is because of you that we accomplished so much.

A very special thanks to:

Mr. O’Shaughnessy, our staff sponsor and pie-throwing volunteer extraordinaire! Mr. Lasso, for support along the way and flexibility with moving things inside when we had a looming forecast. Mr. Lam for putting together an amazing video with students and co-ordinating high school and Roden student volunteers. Steve Riddell for overseeing the sports areas all evening. You kept those kids happy while working off all that sugar! Ms. Revoredo for going well above and beyond her one hour commitment and staying at the food table the entire evening. We honestly couldn’t have done it without you! You were a real life saver, thank you! Thank you to Mr. Walters for being a great sport and agreeing have pie thrown in your face by a long line-up of kids! Ms. Mighton, Ms. Kalbfleisch, Ms. McGonigle, Ms. Barnett for volunteering at the event. Thank you for taking the time to spend more time with students glazed on sugar and more sugar. Thank you to the Caretakers for all the extra hard work put into cleaning up the event.

Thank you to all parents on the Fun Fair Committee, those who baked, cooked, donated books or raffle items, sewed, emceed, delivered posters, advertised the event, worked at a fun fair station or helped clean up and set up. It was amazing to see everyone pitch in in whatever way they could.

Thank you to the grade 6’s, 7’s and 8’s, who all worked on set up duties and/or at a fun fair station. We also had many Roden alumnae return from high school to help out.

Thank you to Uzma, Adeepa and the South Asian community for cooking up some extremely tasty food once again.
Have a wonderful summer, enjoy the weather, and we will see you all in the new year. Fun Fair 2016 is only 358 days away!
