#WeHeartRoden

We know you’ve been stuck at home, connecting with your teacher and classmates through your devices, and not able to see one another in person. We know this has been a challenging time and it can feel incredibly isolating and lonely. Many of us feel the same way.

As a council, we wanted to find a way to bring each and every one of our students together as one, while respecting the lockdown. We wanted a way to celebrate this school year, even though it has been continuously disrupted by challenges and unusual circumstances. By decorating a heart, you will be part of the bigger, overall display of love that will shine on our school fence beyond the end of the school year and into the summer. Our hearts will serve as a visual representation of the resilience, strength and courage we have shown this year. This display will remind us and our community that although we are apart, we are still all in this together.

  • Visit the school between May 31, 2021 and June 4, 2021 to pickup a free wooden heart kit at the main doors. You will see a bin at the doors with folders, sorted by teacher/grade. This is a self-service pickup and you will be able to take what you need.
  • Take home your wooden heart and decorate it! Feel free to share your creations on social media with #weheartroden. (We recommend decoration methods that can tolerate the weather!). You can write your name if you choose, or perhaps a kind message of love, hope, and encouragement.
  • Bring it back and place your hearts in the drop-box at the main doors.
  • Starting June 7, 2021, Roden School Council members will be displaying the hearts on the fences for everyone to see.
All wooden hearts are locally sourced and made in Canada out of baltic birch plywood.
Hearts will be fastened to the fence using jute garden twine – a strong natural vegetable fire that is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and sustainable.
