And lastly, a heartfelt thank you to our fun fair Platinum sponsor ($2,500 donation!), the Gerrard-India Bazaar BIA (@gerrardindiabaz), who was responsible for bringing our dreams of free live entertainment to life and building us an outdoor stage for the second year in a row. We appreciate their generous support of the school, and in return we hope all Roden families who are around in July will check out the Festival of South Asia taking place on July 20 and 21. Now in its 22nd year, the festival is touted as the largest two-day South Asian street festival in North America. This year, the festival is introducing 3 special segments in the Kids Zone — Junior Ventures, Rising Stars, and a Pet Contest — to help children explore different interests and find something they are passionate about. Check out the poster for information and sign up via the link in bio. 🙌🏽

The last School Council meeting of the year is tonight (June 25). Join us at 7:30 at Mattachioni as we reflect on the past year, celebrate our successes, wrap up some final business, and enjoy some well-earned socializing. Childcare will be available next door at Locus Kids.

Happy Monday and a huge thank you to our final Gold fun fair sponsor, @thewrightspotto and @locuskidsto. Most Roden families know Hannah and Crystal — not only do they run fabulous and inclusive children’s programming (aftercare, summer camps, movie nights, workshops, birthday parties, and more), but they also take the time to volunteer at Roden events and generally act like the big sisters our kids never knew they always wanted. You’ll usually see Hannah with her new baby Camden and Crystal with her pup Winnie out in the community with a smile (and a woof) for everyone. For the second year in a row they handled face painting at the fun fair and it was a huge hit! Thanks Locus and TWS for everything you do — the community is better with you in it. 🙏🏽🫶🏽💗

In celebration of Juneteenth, the Roden Grade 8 Steelpan Band performed for @omnicommediagroup in Toronto. Mr. Cupid took the staff of Omnicom Media Group through the origins of the steel pan, its connections to slavery and colonization, and its evolution over time. The presentation was followed by the student performance.

Thank you to Salmon Cupid (@nape_inc), Kristen Boyd (@kjah) and Luke’s mom Deborah for driving the kids and the equipment, Kaity Wong (@kaitywong) for organizing, Sherman Lam for supervising, and @omnicommediagroup for donating $1,000 to purchase new steel pans for the school. It was an amazing experience for the performers and audience alike.

Thank you to all our volunteers, yellow t-shirted and otherwise, grown-up and little, who helped make our fun fair a success. It takes a village to organize these types of events and here at Roden we have a great one.

We’re still riding high, wrapping things up, distributing unclaimed prizes, giving final thanks, and tallying up the money we raised.
