School Council Parent Social -CANCELLED

Hello Roden Parents!

Please join us for a Parent Social hosted by your school council this Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 8 pm in the library.

Meet your school council members, ask questions, share your ideas for Roden and meet other parents in your community. Council would appreciate your guidance in deciding what projects, programs or school equipment to direct funds raised toward. We plan to showcase the projects we’ve been working on such as the Roden.ca website, lunch box ideas and parenting workshops. We look forward to your feedback and communicating ways you might be able to contribute.

Food, music and door prizes will all be waiting for you!

As always, we will provide child care in the gym, but this time with a twist; Zero Gravity Circus will be there to give interested kids juggling and hula hoop lessons. Other gym equipment will also be available. We’ll provide pizza, vegetables and fruit as well.

We hope to see you there!

We want your brains…

We want your brains!…
…because we’re hungry for ideas.
There are a number of funding grants available to the school that require an articulated idea. We know our parent community contains a wide variety of talents, skill-sets and passions.

One of the key things we, as council, would like to identify is a talent pool that could be drawn upon to work on projects.
For example, Livegreen offers grants to schools to build green/eco-roofs – see their website for more info.

Do we have any architects, engineers, urban planners or designers in the house that could help draft a proposal? Or do you have any other ideas that you would like to see implemented in school, say those that involve one of these D.R.E.A.M.S (Drama, Recreation, Extra-Curricular, Arts, Music, Sports)?

The group S’Cool Life Fund – offers grants for programs that bring something lasting to the school that can be used year after year and engage the student body.

These two grants are only a sample of the type of funding that we can apply for, there are many more programs out there waiting for the right combination of idea, drive and commitment to bring to fruition.

Please send us your ideas or tell us about your skills by contacting Matthew Hall at ideas@roden.ca or through your child’s Class Rep or by contacting any of the other fine members of the Roden School Council.

We look forward to hearing your ideas.
