May 2024

It is the penultimate month of the 2023/24 school year and there are many events on the go to keep track of. Our May 2024 calendar was sent home with kiddos this week and it’s available for download below.

A few things to highlight:

This year’s fun fair planning is well underway and it promises to be a spectacular event thanks to our amazing local sponsors and the fun fair planning committee. A few important things for this month:

  • In order to execute a smooth and well-run event we need a solid roster of volunteers. Please consider signing up. Shifts are two-hours long and can be before, during, or after the fun fair. There are many different ways to volunteer and we’ll do our best to make sure everyone is doing something they’re comfortable with. The sign up sheet is available here.
  • We are having a used book sale at this year’s fun fair and will be collecting gently used fiction and non-fiction titles (adult, teen, children, and baby books all welcome). Collection bins will be set up at all three entrances to the school beginning Monday, May 6, OR you can drop off books at 90 Walpole Avenue. Books will be sold at the fun fair for 1 ticket each – just in time for summer! – and any remainders will be donated. Contact communications@roden.ca with any questions.
  • Pre-orders for the fun fair will be live on Monday, May 6. Pre-ordering helps you beat the lines and save money and helps us plan, so we encourage you to do so! Anyone who places a pre-order between May 6 and 21 will be entered to win 1 voucher (from a choice of four) for Jack of All Sports. Details on the reverse of the calendar below. Pre-order here.

Also this month, Area 14 is holding a food drive from the 14-23; Ms. Cappadocia’s class is hosting a bake sale on May 10 from 3 to 3:45 in the foyer; the spring concert is being held on May 22; and there will be a coffee social on the school grounds the morning of May 24. School council will be holding it’s monthly meeting on May 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library and on Microsoft Teams.

Here’s to a great month!
