Toronto Police 55 Division Community Response Unit Sports Program

Officer Adam Whyte from 55 Division (Community Response Unit) will continue to come by the school yard during the summer on alternating Tuesdays (3:30-4:30) to run sports with anyone that shows up. He is mainly reaching out to the older grade 6, 7, 8 students, but if numbers are low, anyone can join in. He wanted to continue his connection to the school community throughout the summer.

He will be there the following dates:

July 5th
July 19th
Aug 2nd
Aug 16th
Aug 30th

Hope you are able to come out and join in the fun!

Consider Joining School Council Next Year!

It’s easy to join school council and get involved in shaping the environment our children learn in. Registration is held in September, which entails filling out a form requesting a spot on council. The first official meeting is usually held the second Wednesday of October and council continues to meet the second Wednesday of each month after that.

Whether you join council or not, everyone is welcome to attend and contribute to the meetings.

There are always possibilities to get involved in school projects, without being a council member. You could:
1. Attend a council meeting.
2. Join or lead a committee such as Fun Fair, Movie Nights, Indoor Air Quality, Bake Sale and others.
3. E-mail chair@roden.ca to let us know you’d like to be added to the email list notifying you of volunteer opportunities (without obligation) like baking or posting flyers and other basic things.
4. Subscribe to our monthly newsletter by going to Roden.ca and signing up.
5. “Like” us on Facebook: Roden School Council for all sorts of updates.

See you for another great year in September!

Indoor Air Quality Update

Roden & Equinox have joined forces to form an Indoor Air Quality committee with a clear focus on removing carpets in our schools as well as replacing water stained ceiling tiles.

We have met with TDSB officials and we are happy to report that we are making progress! Not only will some of the carpet be removed this summer or early fall, but it will be replaced with bio-tile (instead of the standard vinyl).

To date, the following rooms are slated to have to carpets removed: area 14, area 22, area 37. We are hopeful that there will be more, especially on the first floor kindergarten rooms and hallways.

The next step is to have indoor air quality testing done in the school. This is being ordered by a TDSB Health & Safety Officer. It should be done by the end of the school year.

Updates will continue to be posted on this website: Roden.ca
