A message from our Fundraising Committee

The Roden School Council Fundraising Committee wishes to extend a welcome to new and returning parents during this new school year. We will be meeting for the first time on Wednesday September 25th in the school library from 7:00 – 8:00pm to discuss plans for the upcoming school year. All are welcome to attend.

The Fundraising Committee meets for one hour 4 times per school year to discuss events and recommended spending. We aim to offer the community an event every month with proceeds going to supplement extracurricular activities and school trips; grade eight graduation and trip; grounds beautification; and varied school entertainment and presentations.

Even if you are unable to come to meetings, or are unsure what contribution you are able to make, the Fundraising Committee welcomes additions to our “Volunteer Ask List”. By joining this email list you will receive regular updates about upcoming events and plans. You can be added by emailing rodenvolunteers@yahoo.ca with the title “Please Add Me”, or by returning the attached form with your contact information. If you are already on our “Volunteer Ask List” you do NOT need to respond.

Feel free to email, also, for further information regarding the Movie Night and Fundraising Committee Meeting.
Many thanks,
Schenan(Doah) Wilson
Roden School Council Fundraising Chair

Flooring Update

After much discussion and many meetings and negotiations with the TDSB supplier of tiles last June and July, the Healthy Building committee was able to obtain approval for Roden and Equinox to have a “Bio Tile” installed in the lobby/hallway instead of the standard vinyl tiles. Thanks to the Healthy Building Committee for your perseverance and commitment.

Cross Country Club

Mr. Poon has started yet another season of the cross country club which began on Monday September 9 and will end on Thursday October 10th.

All students, parents and staff are welcome to participate in this program from Monday to Thursday from 8:25 to 8:45am, except rainy days. This is an excellent opportunity for participants to develop good habits for leading an active lifestyle and increasing their fitness levels. Participants can walk, jog or run around the school block. Staff are stationed at each of the four corners each day to ensure the safety of all runners and offer encouragement. Each participating student will earn ribbons for every ten laps completed.

All students are eligible to represent their school in the cross country team at the district meet on Tuesday October 8th at Ashbridges Bay. It is strongly advised that students train regularly for this meet.

Students can sign up for the team with Mr. Poon or Ms. McVean in late September. Please contact Mr. Poon, if you have questions or would like to assist with the program.
