Dance-a-thon

Last year’s dance party was a huge success – everyone had a great time and we raised over $2000 towards our Technology and Literacy contributions. Watch out for more information on our costume dance party, coming up during the school day on 31st October!!!

The Dance party was just one of the events last year that raised money for Primary / Junior Literacy and Intermediate / Senior Technology requests from our brilliant teaching staff. In total we raised over $6,000. Our younger classes can now look forward to a reinvigorated library of levelled reading books and our older students have a collection of exciting equipment including an interactive virtual sand table. Come along to the October Council meeting for a sneak peek!

Mabel’s Labels

Lost property is a big problem in every school and it really does help when items are labelled. If you buy stick-on labels, please consider doing so from Mabel’s Labels using our Fundraiser link https://mabelslabels.com/support-a-fundraiser.

Council recently received our first rebates from this link, which are used to support health initiatives such as lice checks, nutrition programs etc within the school.

Can you help us with Movie Nights?

In recent years, Council has hosted regular movie nights to bring the community together and raise money for our various programs. This year our wonderful volunteer organizer, Spencer, is unable to continue running these events. If you can spare a few hours to run even one movie, please contact Jen (chair@roden.ca). No experience required. We already have the licence and equipment and can give you lots of pointers on how to run a successful event, as well as a great team of helpers on the day.

Lice Checks

Supported by School Council, the school runs two lice checks each year from the professionals at NitWits in September and around January. If your child is found to have lice, you will be informed on the same day and given information about treatment options. You will also be notified any time a child in your class is found to have lice.

Even if you don’t hear anything from school, it is advisable to check the hair every week or two. Infestations are much more easily treated early, and doing so minimizes the risk of spreading to other students. Shampoos available over the counter at a drugstore will kill live lice, but you will also need to remove the eggs every day or two for two weeks to ensure the infestation is gone.

A number of companies offer a treatment service either at home or at a local clinic. If you choose to use Nitwits’ treatment services, please let them know you are from Roden school as we receive a small rebate for each Roden family treated by them. These rebates go towards lice checks and treatment services for needy families in the school.

Also, if you get a prescription from your doctor, lice medication can be covered under OHIP+!

If your child has live lice, please keep them home from school and inform the office so that others in their class can be informed.
