Help Us Bring Holiday Joy to School Families in Need

As the holiday season approaches, we are reaching out to our compassionate community with a heartfelt appeal. At Roden we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for all our families, especially during times when many face financial challenges. We recognize everyone is being asked to support so many worthy organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. We share this message in the hopes that, if you are able, you can help.

This year has been particularly tough for some of our school families, and we want to ensure that they can celebrate the holidays with joy, dignity, and full stomachs. We have launched two initiatives in support of families in our community that need a little extra support to get through the winter break.

  1. We are collecting cash donations to help us raise money for grocery gift cards to bridge the gap over the winter break.
  2. We are participating in a toy drive with the Swag Sisters’ Toy Store to raise money for new books and toy to families in our community over the holidays.

How you can participate:

  1. Grocery gift cards: Donate directly to School Cash Online. Simply select Roden Public School from the dropdown menu, and direct your gift to the School Council Fundraising option. We have set a fundraising goal of $2,000 for this initiative.
  2. Toy drive: Donate money by e-transfer ( or bring cash to the front office and help us raise $1,000 toward gifts to make the holidays a little brighter. Swag Sisters’ will match every dollar we raise.

With your support, we aim to provide essential resources and help alleviate of the financial burdens some of our school families may be experiencing.

By coming together as a community, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of our fellow school families. Your support sends a powerful message of solidarity and care. Every dollar counts, and together, we can make a significant difference.

Whether you are able to support at this time or not, we hope you will spread the word: Share this post with your friends, family, and colleagues who may be interested in supporting this cause. The more people we reach, the closer we get to our fundraising goal.

We will be collecting donations until December 8, 2023.

Thank you for your support!

2022/23 Year in Review

After a tumultuous few years, the 2022/23 year felt like a return to normal. And we were ready. The community came together to rally around the students and the school, and school council was able to implement and support a number of activities and initiatives. Highlights included the welcome-back movie night, the holiday plant sale, the spirit wear design challenge, monthly coffee socials, the triumphant return of pizza lunch Fridays, food drives, toy drives, the launch of the School Equity Fund, the Roden-Equinox clothing exchange, the school book fair, Scientist in the School workshops, hip hop classes, the supper club, and what will go down in history as a truly epic fun fair.

Below is our year in review: our events, our advocacy, and the dollars raised. Thank you for all of your help in making last year such a successful one for our school and for the kids. We’re excited to see where this year will take us.

• Grades 7-8: 400 minutes

Reading logs have been sent home in backpacks, or use our online template: (just be sure to save a copy to your desktop first). Participants have the chance to win a Swag Sisters’ Gift Card!
