Roden Read-a-Thon

For the entire month of February, students can participate in the Roden Read-a-Thon by reading ANYTHING in ANY language (favourite books, comics, trading cards, homework instructions) and logging the time each day or week.

The monthly reading goals are:

• JK/SK: Read once a day for 15 days. Any reading counts, even being read to!

• Grades 1-3: 200 minutes Grades 4-6: 300 minutes

• Grades 7-8: 400 minutes

Reading logs have been sent home in backpacks, or use our online template: (just be sure to save a copy to your desktop first). Participants have the chance to win a Swag Sisters’ Gift Card! Every child who reaches their reading goal will be entered into a draw for prizes! For every 15 minutes logged over their goal, they will get one additional ballot into the draw. More minutes = more chances to win!

We look forward to hearing about your priorities and incorporating your suggestions.

New for 2023: Pizza lunches!

Get ready! The last Friday of the month will now be Pizza Lunch Days, with pizza ordered from Pizza Nova. It will be available for pre-order through School Cash Online and both Roden and Equinox students can participate. Cheese, pepperoni, and gluten-free options will be available, with the ability to order single or multiple slices. Slices are the square party size, and each order comes with a carton of milk. Keep an eye out for an e-mail on Sunday, January 15, announcing that orders are open; orders close Thursday, January 19.

We don’t want any student to go hungry, so please contact Ryan or Vu if you need assistance.

Pizza lunches are a fundraising initiative, with money raised going toward bringing speakers, workshops, and other experiences into the school for students. In addition, 25% of all funds raised will be put towards our newly formed Student Equity Fund.

The next Roden School Council Meeting is taking place on Monday, January 16, at 7:00 p.m., in person in the school library. Childcare will be available on site, and we encourage all parents and caregivers to attend. For those who cannot attend in person, a virtual streaming option will be available on Zoom.
